Family focused werewolf x vampire.Description:
A queer fantasy family saga series with werewolves, vampires, faeries and witches.The Walkers and Brightbolds have clashed into each other on multiple occasions over the years. Each generation grows a liking to each other in one way or another.Each member of both families has their issues and troublesome past. Like difficult relationships with parents, siblings or partners, and various trauma. Several dangers follow them around; an enemy werewolf pack, a shady gang, and a dead witch who keeps resurrecting deceased relatives.They help each other when danger arises, support each other during hard times, and love each other; each in their own way.Two families, spanning four generations, eventually merge into one big mess of a family.

Book 1:
Please, Go Home

Hyde needs a push to face his family, and Rune will be the one to give it.A queer werewolf-vampire romantic fantasy.Gay werewolf Hyde Walker hasn’t been home for six years. He doesn’t want to face what he’d done and refuses to talk about it to anyone, other than his journal. He pretends he never had a life before coming to this village six years ago, despite the scars that mark him. All he has now are a girl who won’t take a hint, a witch constantly working on her necromancy research, and a village full of people who demand his help at their makeshift police station. He hates it.Bisexual vampire Rune Brightbold has found himself in quite a predicament. Needing a way to provide for his family after the death of his parents, he took a shady job and couldn’t find a way out of it. That is until he’s sent to a small village and is arrested by someone who takes quite a liking to him and would rather help than throw him in jail. Rune will finally be able to see his family after five years.Hyde and Rune poke and pry at each other, trying to get the other to tell them about their past. Why is Hyde in this village? Why did Rune take that job? Why won’t Hyde talk about his family? Why won’t Rune go home, now that he can?They push each other to finally go home. Rune finds the gang he worked for isn’t tricked so easily, and they don’t have a merciful bone in their body. Hyde is faced with the aftermath of his departure, and the werewolf pack responsible for his grandfather’s death is back for round two.As the two desperately try to keep each other alive, having grown attached to the comfort the other provides, they see others from their families quite like being alive all of a sudden, too.

Hyde Walker

A werewolf who’s hiding from his traumatic past and avoids any kind of connection with anyone despite how lonely he is. He keeps a journal in place of a friend or a therapist. He likes to doodle to ease his anxiety but denies he can draw at all.He instantly grows attached to the first guy his age he meets in six years, because he’s been surrounded by women, which he doesn’t care for. A werewolf who’s a sweet and caring guy, but can get too protective and lose control sometimes.He seems tough on the outside, but people who truly know him know how fragile he can be.

A vampire who gets arrested by a guy just as lonely as he is. He’s gotten himself mixed up with shady people and needs help getting away from them, even if that means spending several days in jail.His only motivation is protecting his little sisters and his grandpa, no matter what.Witty and flirty, but gets overwhelmed once he actually likes someone. He pushes his new friend to face his fears, because his friend could have something he himself could never have again.

An energetic, bubbly, teen girl who lost so much at a young age, but takes her grandfather’s example and won’t let it define her.Her brother has been gone for a long time and she’s not sure he’s even still alive. But she wants to believe the best in him, that he wouldn’t have abandoned them.She wants her family to be happy together, and loves to tease her brother about this new friend he brought home.

A teen girl who’s lost a lot at a young age. She put walls around herself to keep from being hurt again. However, she can’t help but care for other’s wellbeing. She’s not very friendly or social, her sister is extroverted enough for the both of them.Her brother left her when she needed him most. When he returns, she won’t let her walls down for him as easily as her sister does. He has to earn that. And she certainly won’t trust the random guy he brought along.

A faerie who grew up at an orphanage all her childhood, who finally found a family in a set of siblings who arrived there later in life. She found a best friend, and two girls she will be a caring older sister for.Her best friend, who became her boyfriend for a few years, had to leave for a job, causing them to break up. He didn’t want her to be stuck with him while they couldn’t see each other. Five years later, he has yet to return and Lullaby wonders where he is, if he’ll ever come back. And what would become of their relationship and friendship if he does.

She’ll go to great, perhaps unethical lengths to test her theories. Everything and everyone is a research subject, even herself.

Perhaps he could’ve reached out more himself instead of running away from it.His recklessness and tendency to rush into things have led him to make many mistakes, one of which forced him to leave his family behind. The human daughter of a werewolf and a faerie. Her werewolf mother was the alpha of their town’s pack. When she passed, it was her task to find a replacement to marry. She found one up in the North, far away from home. He seemed like the exact type of guy she was looking for. A werewolf, tough and strong, masculine, and wanting a family. She convinced him to come south with her after only a couple months.Through the years of their marriage, he wasn’t as perfect as she thought he was. They had different needs that the other didn’t want to fill, and had differing ideas about how to raise their autistic son.Despite the hiccups, she was confident they would work through it, even when she felt him detaching from her. But before she could find out if their marriage would survive, he was killed because of the same pack that lead to her finding him in the first place.Her relationship with her son was often rocky, they were very different people. But they became closer after his father’s death. Until she died too, only three years later.

A faerie who’d like to find a long term partner, which has been challenging so far due to him being a trans man who’s also a faerie. His only family is his elderly witch mother, he never knew his faerie father. He knows faeries have magic, but has no idea how to use it or reach it, and no one to teach him. He does know how to enter the realm of the Fae, however. Perhaps he will, one day.

A musician, mother, and grandmother who struggles with a serious mental condition that she’s afraid to tell anyone about, in fear of the people she loves thinking she’s insane or dangerous. She tries her best to keep her career and personal life separate, wanting to keep her son and his father out of the spotlight like they’d demanded.Her relationship with her son had never been good, but when he vanished, she was heartbroken to never have the chance to make things right. Until he shows up at her door.

He’s scared to meet new people, that’s how it started with her too. How would he know anyone else he meets won’t be the same as her? All he wants in life is to be reunited with his son.

Locations

The South

The South has long, dry and warm summers, and warm, rainy winters. It is surrounded by beaches and warm seas. The landscape consists of forests and plains.The people are a bit old fashioned.

The North

The North has long, harsh winters and short, cold summers. It is landlocked and is covered in pine tree forests and some mountains and hills.It’s the most populated area of the continent thanks to the vampires who love the lack of sun. It’s the most progressive and advanced area.

The West

The West has both mild summers and winters. Like the South, it has a coast, but it’s cold and rocky. It’s the windiest place on the continent and is entirely covered by grassy plains.The type of people vary. The further north, the more progressive the people tend to be. The further south, the more old fashioned. It can be a gamble for what kind of town you’ll end up in.

The East

The East has cold winters and warm summers. It shares its mountain range with the North. It’s covered in forests, which are filled with faerie gateways. It is the least populated because of this, people want to stay away from faeries.The people are the most old fashioned out of the whole continent. The influence of the faeries seeps into the regular population.

Village

A small, nameless village in the South well hidden by the surrounding forest. It attracts older people looking to hide away for their retirement, or younger people wanting to hide for other reasons.

Corburn

A small town located at the Southern coast. There’s a prevalent pack of werewolves who have claim over the surrounding forest, but don’t do anything with it.The population has slowly been leaving due to the dangers the werewolves bring to it.

Enath

A town far in the North, located nearby one of the biggest cities on the continent. It attracts families and young parents due to its proximity and railroad connection to the city while still being a town.

Veritas

One of the biggest cities on the continent, located in the far North. Many vampires made their home here, safer in the cold darkness. It became known as a safe haven for vampires, and later for other marginalised groups, too. The progressive attitudes of the people always stuck around.It’s the most technologically advanced place in the area.

The Realm of the Fae

A separate world where most faeries live. It is entered through faerie gateways in the Eastern forests. It is where all magic originates from, good and bad.

The Realm of the Dead

A thin layer on top of the human realm. It’s where wandering souls, or ghosts, reside. Everything is the same, except the ghosts wander through the world like they don’t exist.They can watch their relatives live their lives from the sidelines, but can’t interact with them. If they do manage to do something like touch someone, the living person will most likely brush it off as something else. It’s incredibly frustrating.

Races

Human

Regular people with no special abilities. In the early days, it was difficult for them to accept the strange and scary people they shared the world with. However, today, most don’t care that much anymore.

Faerie

Origins
In the beginning, there were humans and faeries, each in their own realm. Faeries came into the human realm, humans accidentally wandered into the fae realm. They mingled.Where
Faeries are originally from The Realm of the Fae. Throughout the course of history, faeries have entered the human realm out of curiosity, malice or boredom. Gateways from and to the fae realm are only found in the East, resulting in most faeries in the human realm living there. All faerie bloodlines originate from the East, too.Bloodlines
Faeries divide themselves into full-blood and mixed-blood. A full-blood’s whole bloodline consists of only faeries and they have most likely never left the fae realm. They see themselves as better than mixed-bloods, who meddled with ‘lower life forms.’ Nearly every faerie living in the human realm is mixed blood. Most are very disconnected from the fae realm and aren’t aware of this distinction. A lot of faerie children come from full-blooded faeries coming to the human realm for some secret, taboo fun, impregnating some random lady and then fleeing, not wanting anyone in the fae realm to know they have a mixed-blooded child and have thus tainted their bloodline.Magic
Faeries have the capacity for the most powerful magic of all races. It’s trickster magic based on contracts, usually meant to screw at least one party over. They could do anything if they can come up with a contract for it. The more powerful the magic, the bigger the cost. But this needs to be taught. As such, it’s a lost art form among mixed-bloods in the human realm. No one bothered to write it down there because they have the texts in the fae realm. But now most outsider faeries don’t even know how to enter the fae realm.In The Realm of the Fae
Their appearance changes to something more mystical. Horns, tails, wings, odd colours and the like. When they exit, they return to their more human form. But after they enter the fae realm for the first time, their shadow and reflection is forever changed into their fae form.

Vampire

Origins
One night, a group of humans tried to steal some faerie blood for it supposed magical power. In turn, the faerie cursed them to become blood sucking monsters who could never walk in daylight again.
This first group really were monsters. The faerie gave them the ability to turn other humans to make them more feared and hated, but made faeries immune.
After several hundred, maybe even thousand years, vampires mingled with the other races, weakening the curse every generation to the point that they’re now simply slightly dead looking people who need to drink a blood-like substance and are extra sensitive to sunlight.Where
Most common in the North. It has the least sunlight. In turn, the least common in the South.Dead
A vampire’s body is kind of dead, the skin has a grey tone to it. Their blood is constantly dying, but they do need it, so they refill it through external sources. Either by taking it from someone else or drinking artificial blood.Healing
Vampires heal flesh wounds to keep the precious, dying blood inside their body. They don’t regenerate lost body parts, only keep themselves from bleeding out.Sunlight
It doesn’t kill them, but it’s incredibly painful and can leave third degree burns if bad enough. Being in the shade, out of direct sunlight, is enough not to burn. Most vampires wear hoods or carry umbrellas.Lifespan
Twice as long as normal. Children age regularly, their age freezes at 20, then continues at 40.Artificial blood
A long time ago, artificial blood was invented so vampires wouldn’t be forced to prey on people. It was a win for both parties. Ever since then, vampires have been integrated into society like regular people with some quirks. It even comes in different flavours.Discrimination
Even after the invention of artificial blood, some people were afraid of vampires. There were groups formed to hunt them down and ‘take care of them’. By either staking them through the heart, or the more ‘humane’ option of ripping their fangs out so they couldn’t bite anyone.
If someone was turned against their will, these groups would encourage them not to drink blood, even artificial, to keep them ‘pure’. They would even force them to eat regular food they couldn’t digest anymore, making them sick. If the new vampire went along with this, they’d eventually die.Turning
Drink until you’re full, make yourself bleed, let the blood drip into their mouth until the wound closes. The person will be out for a few hours, then wake up as a vampire after their body has gone through all the changes.Soul-link
Turning links the turner’s and turnee’s souls, amplifying the connection they already have, or giving a want for a connection if there is none. This means vampires have to think carefully about who they turn.De-aging
When an older person is turned, their physical age will return to what a vampire’s physical age should be. A 50-year-old will return to 25. It refers to how long the body has existed, how old the bones are, not how long it’s been alive.In the Realm of the Fae
They turn into their original, aggressive, bloosthirsty form. They’re back to normal as soon as they leave with no lingering effects.

Werewolf

Origins
A couple hundred years after the first vampires, another group of humans, on a night of a full moon, tried to take a faerie creature away from a faerie. This faerie cursed them to become dangerous, uncontrollable wolf-like monsters every full moon. Originally, they could also spread their curse through biting. But over the generations, their curse had weakened to what it is today; people with heightened senses who can turn into a slightly animalistic person. The ability to turn others faded away.Where
Pretty much everywhere, but occasionally in big groups in small, rural towns. Some of those towns are completely filled with werewolves and nothing else.Stronger senses
Mainly smell, but hearing too. While shifted, werewolves can’t recognise faces. They recognise people by smell or voice.Shifting
Can turn into an animalistic, wolf-like person with movable, pointed, hairy ears, fur-like body hair, cat-like eyes, sharp teeth and claws. They can’t speak.The inner wolf
It’s not a different entity, it’s the other side of the same coin. It’s like their subconscious or instinct that sometimes takes over, like they’re sleepwalking. Someone’s wolf may realise or know something that the werewolf doesn’t yet, or make them do something without them realising.Partial shifting
The process of learning this involves blurring the line between the sides of the werewolf; the person and the wolf. It gives the werewolf more control of what to shift, but creates more difficulty with keeping their wolf inside when they’re feeling something primal or instinctual, like anger, fear, hunger or lust. Not learning it properly will result in having to deal with the latter while not getting the benefits of the former.Full moons
They force werewolves to shift. They don’t register any conscious memory of that night, the inner wolf is in full control.Scent-marking
Werewolves like to mark the people they’re close to with their scent. Particularly their partner, or someone they want to be their partner. Other werewolves can smell it and recognise that this person already has a werewolf in their life. The nature of the relationship isn’t clear. It’s like marking their territory.Packs
City werewolves think packs are outdated and unnecessary, while rural werewolves often still join or form them and live that lifestyle like there is no other way for them to exist. Pack conflicts can get fatally dangerous, which stops many werewolves who are unfamiliar with it from trying it out.There are two types of packs. The original version, which is just a family of werewolves where the oldest would be considered the alpha. And the more modern version of several families with one family being the alpha family. Werewolves who live in the original version don’t like the modern version.In the Realm of the Fae
It unlocks the full, original power of the lycanthropy curse. The inner wolf becomes more its own entity. They can fully shift into the wolf-like monster that was the original werewolf. Their senses are heightened even more, especially hearing, because their ears become permanently pointed and movable, like they’re shifted, but with no hair. If the werewolf wasn’t previously well in tune with their wolf, controlling all this new power will be a difficult battle with this more independent and powerful entity they share their body and mind with.

Witch

Origins
A group of humans tried to take Fae magic for themselves. It went wrong and they ended up with a weakened, corrupted version of it that works differently. Their power hasn’t weakened over the years, because it wasn’t a curse.Where
Witches are found evenly over the continent. Since they originated from Fae magic, like most races, they’re originally from the East.Magic
They use their magic as an extension of themselves. They can do simple things with a flick of the wrist, or more complicated things with specific spells that need to be learned. Some witches turn to alchemy for spells that their magic is too weak for. It’s a difficult discipline that takes a lifetime of study to do anything worthwhile with.The fields of medicine and technology are filled with witches to find magical solutions to problems, like imbuing objects with magic or creating things with alchemy,Souls
Witches are more in tune with their Realm of the Dead. It’s easier for them to communicate with wandering souls and feel their presence.

Genetics

Faeries
Faeries are genetically the strongest. If one of the parents gives the Fae gene to the child, the child will always be a faerie.Werewolf & vampire
These two are equal, because they originated in the same way. They’re both cursed and you can’t get rid of one by being infected with the other. As such, this is the only possible hybrid. A true hybrid would be a werewolf who was turned into a vampire later. But werewolf-vampire mixed children tend to show characteristics of both, too. They’re mainly one, which has a 50/50 chance of which that will be, and show some heritage of the other. Like a vampire with a sensitive nose or a werewolf who gets sunburnt easily. When a werewolf has the original curse, the werewolf genes will be extra powerful.Witch
These two only way for a witch to be born is if there are no faerie, vampire or werewolf genes involved. These three can be carriers of the witch and human genes, possibly resulting in witch and human children.Human
Only two human genes will create a human. Many members of the other races are human carriers, resulting in the occasional human child among parents of different races.

Ghost

What
Souls are what is left of a person if you remove their body. It’s who they are, it’s their emotions and attachments, their fears, likes and wants.Wandering souls
When someone dies, depending on how they died, there’s a chance their soul will wander in the Realm of the Dead instead of move on to the afterlife, whatever that looks like. Turning them into ghosts. When someone died young, or in a traumatic way, or they had a lot of unfinished business, the chance of them wandering is higher. But it’s never guaranteed, even if the person wouldn’t have felt ready to move on.Wandering souls vary in strength. Some can’t interact with the living world at all, others can move objects and write things down and even possess living people. It’s quite random how strong a ghost will be, but a lot of anger gives them better odds. Their strength can chance over time.Non-wandering souls
They move on to whatever is next, people have different beliefs for what that is. But they can still be brought back with the potion.

Superhumans exist and aren’t liked by the world. They’re feared, treated as subjects to be studied or weapons to be used.They’re split up into those who work with the organisation hunting them, and those who don’t. Rogues, they call them. Over the years, it turned out to be a common occurrence that the good supers would rather join the rogue ones, than keep working for an organisation who constantly dangles their freedom over their head.A small group of young supers were abandoned by their parents. They found each other and get through life together, through any means necessary, forming a Team of Thieves. Their found family slowly grows as they meet others like them and more is uncovered about their family history.

Abandoned when he was seven, this telekinetic has been a thief for as long as he could remember. Years, he was alone on the streets, until he met another orphaned superhuman teenager who took him to his hideout in the woods. Together, they’re the perfect recipe for thievery.He loves his partner in crime very dearly and wishes their relationship was official, but his partner always freaks out and breaks their relationship off when Eric mentions them being boyfriends. Eric’s been patient with him, knowing they both have their issues. But now after ten years of this nonsense, perhaps it’s time to find someone new.

Austin is a recently graduated marine biologist. For his current work, he’s living at the coast and keeps track of the biodiversity and populations in the nearby kelp forest. His house is a small cabin with no neighbours for miles. He loves the quiet isolation. Other people only confuse him, and the modern world overwhelms him.He’s loved the sea his whole life, he always wanted to be close to it. It’s so peaceful, fascinating and beautiful. This job is a dream for him, he wishes he could do this for the rest of his life. He’d live in the sea himself if he could.

Plus, his parents don’t want him wondering off too much. Especially now that that human has been coming way too close to their home for comfort.Bo doesn’t think the human looks that scary or dangerous, he’d like to say hi. But he knows his family would be furious, especially his dad.

Especially humans, having grown up with stories about those land monsters who destroy everything they touch.This human that’s been around for a while now has gotten way too close to them. It doesn’t seem like he’s leaving anytime soon. Merric might want to take drastic measures to get rid of him.

His family is too afraid to come up to visit, though. They blame her for the fact that they rarely see their son anymore, and haven’t even met their grandchildren.She loves her family more than anything. She has a hard time thinking about her children growing up so much that they’d leave home. Especially her youngest, wasn’t he just a little baby not that long ago?The human that’s been around their home lately worries her, but she tries to keep an open mind. He hasn’t done any harm to them or the environment. And it’s only one, how much of a threat could he be?

The oldest of the three kids. He tries to be the responsible big brother, but his mischievous and goofy nature gets in the way. He often drags his brother or sister into whatever he’s scheming at the time.He struggles with what he is; a deep sea merman with shallow sea traits. Where does he belong? He grew up in the shallows, but his size and anatomy tells him he belongs in the depths. But even there, he’d stand out, green isn’t a colour of the depths. It doesn’t help that his father never takes him down there, worried about what the harsher conditions would do to him. His body isn’t used to it, even if he was born for that environment.He’s wary of this human that showed up, following his dad’s example. His brother seems to be forming his own opinions.

Naia is the middle child, but often acts as the responsible older sister to both her younger and older brother. She likes that she’s a good mix of her parents; she has all the colours from her dad, but with her own shallow sea spin on them, thanks to her mom.She likes to explore and find new, interesting things. Sometimes, she takes those back home with her. She’s built up a bit of a collection of little trinkets.When a human appears in their area, she’d love to have a chat with him and see what kind of knowledge he could share with her. But that crosses the line for her parents.

Varan has never met a merfolk bigger than himself. Others often treat it as something to be celebrated and be proud of, but he sees it as a burden. His whole life, his parents instilled in him that his size would be a danger to him, unless he stays in the trench, their home. He could be easily spotted and be an easy target if he went close to the surface.The one time he did come close, he’d found a lost merchild way deeper down than he should’ve been. He hadn’t planned to go to the shallows, but he couldn’t leave this child to his fate. He took him back up, dropped him off on the cliff, and left again right after, not getting a good look at the kid.He’s envious of his younger brother sometimes. He wasn’t too big to live in the shallows. In fact, he’d built a whole family there. But Varan’s never met his brother’s children. He can’t go up to see them, and they can’t come down. Both were too risky and dangerous.
